Polychloroprenes for solventborne adhesives

Under the product name Baypren®, Bayer markets a polychloroprene (poly-2-chlorobutadiene-1,3), produced by a state-of-the-art process.

Properties: The Baypren® grades differ with regard to their crystallization rate and solution viscosity. The 200 range has a medium crystallization rate and the 300 range a fast crystallization rate. As far as the solution viscosity is concerned, we offer Baypren® grades with viscosities between 10 and 120 mPas. Apart from their viscous properties, polychloroprene solutions also have elastic properties. In addition, the product range includes Baypren® grades both with and without thiuram. Adhesives based on Baypren® are noted for their long open time and the high initial strength of the bonds.

Uses: Baypren has proved itself in the production of adhesives for the automotive industry in applications in which high stresses are exerted on the bond and/or the bonded objects are subjected to further processing very quickly. In combination with the adhesion-improving Desmodur® products, Baypren can also be used for formulating adhesives for rubber materials that are otherwise difficult to bond. We recommend thiuram-free Baypren® grades for bond sensitive, light-colored materials.

Advantages:

  • Very high initial strength
  • High dissolving speed
  • Very fast curing
